Dear Parents,
I hope you love summer as much as I do. I love the extra time with my family and all the fun things we try to add to our busy days.
I have a special favor to ask of all of you this summer. As you probably know, the children who do not read, write, and play math games over this long break tend to have academic losses. Could you please help us prevent this from happening this summer?
Here are some suggestions that you may consider:
-Join the library program. It's great fun and it keeps children practicing their reading.
-Play math games. The children can show you the many games they play in their classrooms with just a deck of cards. Practice addition, subtraction, multiplication and division flash cards. This can make those "road trip" pass quickly. Write math problems in chalk on the driveway and play mental math games over dinner.
-Find a pen pal or write to family and friends telling them what great fun you are having over the summer.
-Check out the Sunset website. Scroll down and check out the web sites that are suggested for student use.
I hope you have a wonderful summer. I can't wait to see you in the fall and to hear about all the great things you and your child(ren) did over the summer.
