Stephen G. Kukolich
Vicksburg High School - Class of 1958
After graduation, Steve headed east to pursue his love of science at the reknown Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).  In 1962, he received a Bachelor's Degree in Physics and by 1966 he had completed his Doctorate in Physics as well (Sc.D.).
Steve worked as a research assistant in physics at MIT, eventually becoming an instructor of physics, a position he held until 1968 when he left to become an assistant professor of chemistry at the University of Illinois.
Steve returned to MIT, this time as an assistant professor. In 1974 he moved west to the University of Arizona to take a job as an assistant professor of chemistry. In 1979, he became a professor and has been there ever since.
Back in 1973 he took a $5 ride in a airplane and got hooked by aviation. He has since earned private, commercial and instructor licenses. He currently has two planes, a Gruman AA5-A and a Cessna C-310Q. Steve usually makes at least two trips a year back to the east coast for meetings and visiting friends and relatives. Steve's son, Keith is learning to fly with Dad as the Instructor Pilot and is hopeful he will have his license soon!
Steve is married to Penny Graves, who is a research associate in respiratory science at the University of Arizona Medical School. Steve's oldest son, Stephen A., is a computer programmer in Lexington, Maine with children, Peter and Stephanie. Second son, Keith, just graduated from the University of Arizona in Computer and Electrical Engineering and has a job with Raythion in Tucson. Keith has one daughter, Kari, who is attending Pima College in Tucson.
In his spare time Steve enjoys running. In fact, he has run serveral marathons and keeps in shape running five miles several times a week.
